No one was born to dance we all had to learn it somewhere.
Our Beginners Dance Classes are perfect for you.
But I'm too shy to try and dance in front of a lot of strangers.
You can buy any of our Beginners DVD's and learn at home, then attend class and feel confident.
Our dance teachers and staff are friendly and make our classes fun not intimidating
I don't have any dance shoes.
I've got too many! Save your money and don't purchase any dance shoes just yet.
Wear comfortable low heeled shoes (not thongs or sandles). When you feel more confident you should then invest in a pair of dance shoes. It's a lot easier and comfortable to wear the appropriate shoes for dancing in. A great dance shoe store is Covelli. They do mail orders and are available online. covelli.net.au Merill can help you with all your dance shoe needs.
What are the steps and timing for 50's style Rock'n'Roll Dancing
This can help you to understand beats of the music and more importantly how to dance to the music.
The timing(musical beat) for this dance is 6 beats.
E.G.
On Step 1 we hold for 2 beats
On Step 2 we hold for 2 beats
On Back Step we step to 1 beat each foot. = 2 beats hence = 6 beats
So the first 2 steps become slower than the last 2 on back step.
If you're not sure how to count the beats just listen to the music and count
1,2,3,4 - 1,2,3,4 - over and over again till you can hear the beat.
There are 4 beats to each bar of Rock'n'Roll music.
So one of your basic step will be 1 1/2 bars of music.
Try and listen to music while understanding what beats, bars and timing
of the music is. After all that's what we dance to, music not the
Steps.
